I'm looking to buy a new monitor and want an IPS panel for 200 bucks, I've narrowed it down to these two:

LG Model: IPS236V
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/LG+-+IP...06466603&skuId=2031077#tabbed-customerreviews

and I heard this one goes on sale often from $ 300 to$ 200:

23” Dell UltraSharp U2312HM
http://accessories.dell.com/sna/pro....aspx?c=ca&l=en&s=bsd&cs=cabsdt1&sku=320-2807

apparently they use the same panel made by LG:

i like the dell, the bezel on the lg looks large, may not bother you tho ( i don't have a 2312 but love my dell 2412's)

You might want to wait awhile and consider the fact that LG was supposed to release several new IPS panels in Feb. that were shown at CES 2012 and it is now March but unfortunately not one word about the pending new monitors:

Of course who knows since they might not be any good anyways ! :D

Regards, ;)

I have 3 IPS236V. They are nice monitors (minus bezel and stand), but just keep in mind it will need to be calibrated. All 3 of them have default settings that make the screens look completely different from one another. So it's hard to get it displaying correctly. If you have a hardware calibrator, you should be ok.

THe U2312HM is $189 for another 8 Hours as part of 12 Days of Dell deals for us Canadians, woo!!! just got one.

This is why no one likes Canada. The cheapest I have seen it down here is $225 and that discount was pretty much wiped out after sales tax. Granted, sales tax is still applicable at full price so it was cheaper but still. Either Dell loves Canada or they need to offer incentives to get these to move up there. I'm going to go with "they love Canada and want to have its adopted babies".

They have the best deals on monitors; I just slouch in my chair whenever someone on a forum asks whether or not to take the plunge on a U2711 that's on sale for $700 on Dell's Canadian site.

That's crazy. You would think they were a Canadian company lol.

I think I would get one of the Korean 2560x1600 monitors though before I would hand over $700 though especially since Squaretrade warranties will apparently cover them after the one year manufacturer's warranty is up. Granted, you could exchange the Dell all day long but, that's a pretty steep price difference for the luxury of exchanges.

I just bought this guy from Amazon. In case you wanted to make the choice a harder.

I had an LG e2370v while ago, awesome monitor until it got hit with a controller. If the ips 6 series are anything like that one then I would recommend the LG. A lot of people use the dell's so there's that benefit as well.

Mine's not bad. Has a similar glow around the whole screen. Not completely black but doesn't have the bright area's of regular back light bleed like my 120HZ Acer I replaced. The menu buttons are nice but prefer actual buttons. It easy to switch between inputs. A big plus for me since I use my xbox on the same screen. I need to test it on the xbox still. Had issues playing netflix on the acer. Couldn't establish a secure connection. Very nice monitor for the price and the actual unit is very thin and pretty.

Personally I had the LG IPS236V for a few days, bought it from best buy, I would have kept it but the top right of the screen suffered from SEVERE backlight issues, it wasnt bleeding, it was like there was a sun forming on the upper right side, other than that, I was amazed at how much better colors and movies looked side by side to my LG TN (L227 wtg-pf).

The screen I am looking at now is the AOC i2353Ph, (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1611999&CatId=4420). Check it out on YouTube, the stainless steel-esq bezel is very appealing. Plus it is only $179

it was 225 after taxes and the B.S Environmental disposal fee thing.

It's 6 bit with that accelerator thing that mimics 8 bit, but still much better than getting a TN display...

After I broke my 2370 I finally found one at walmart of all places. But it had the exact same issue except in the bottom right corner. Looked like sunglare that showed in everything except really bright background.

I just bought the AOC your talking about. It's also 189 from amazon. Better deal to me if you got a prime account. I actually bought mine from amazon, bought UPS left the missed delivery slip. Not a big deal I thought, just pick it up from the warehouse. They said I could pick it up Tuesday. Tuesday! It;s freaking friday and I paid one day shipping. So I went to micocenter, bought it and gonna take the amazon one straight to the UPS store when I pick it up. Thankfully Five guys is right next door.

Anyways the AOC is pretty nice. Just as nice as my LG was, which is all I wanted.

Just how easy is it to switch inputs on this monitor? Is it a single button press?

Currently, it takes 4 button presses for me to change inputs on my Dell. Wouldn't mind cutting that down to 1 or 2.

It doesn't appear to be sold by Amazon directly anymore...just 3rd party sellers at this point. Or I'd be all over it right now. Amazon + Prime shipping would be great.

I don't think it's ever been available directly from them. The last time I looked at it was from TgireDirect/CompUSA through Amazon. Microcenter also sells it.

I have the IPS236V, also from Best Buy and have had it for a few months now. It does have some backlight bleed in the upper right corner but it becomes much more subtle when calibrated from the default 80 brightness to where I have it calibrated to 120 nits at 58 in the OSD. It was also very blue at stock, but again calibrated nicely with a Spyder 3 Pro. My only real complaints of it are the wobbly stand and the capacitive buttons can be somewhat unresponsive. A feature that I wish every monitor came with is that you can turn off the power LED (which is that stupid blue color) using the OSD. It will slowly pulse back on when in power saving mode but when you wake it back up it will turn back off after a few seconds.

Honestly? I'm pleased with it as an inexpensive $200 monitor. It is rather uniform in brightness and takes well to calibration and has the benefits of a fast IPS panel. I knew going into it that it wasn't going to compare to, say, a 2412 or other premium monitor but it is a far cry better than the slew of budget TN monitors out there.
