1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing?
Mainly Diablo III

2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
600 i can bend for taxes

3) Which country do you live in? If the U.S, please tell us the state and city if possible.
PA Scranton

4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. The word "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need.
Case,Mobo,Cpu,Memory,Power Supply,Vidcard,HD,DVD drive

5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
None.

6) Will you be overclocking?
No
7) What is the max resolution of your monitor? What size is it?
will be a 22in with BB gift cards.

8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
With in the next week - all newegg parts please.

9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? USB 3.0? SATA 6Gb/s? eSATA? Onboard video (as a backup or main GPU)? UEFI? etc.
Nothing special really a gaming pc for a HS grad.

10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If yes, what OS? Is it 32bit or 64bit?
Will run win7 64bit. He is asking gram to pick that up for grad gift.

I was looking at other builds here in that range, but confused on the new cpu/mobo bios issues with the new i5 cpus. I would rather get a drop in solution for more $ then get a good cpu, update bios then swap out.

Thank you all for your time.

I noticed that you seem to have a couple of items not in the $600 like the OS and the monitor. So can those things be taken out of the $600 budget and used for other things?

His post states he is getting a monitor with Best Buy gift cards and his grandma is getting him Windows license.

I really like these $600 builds and have been looking around for a bit at different options, and I am going to say right upfront I am an intel and nvidia fan so we wont find any thing else in my recommendations, oh and I am on a shuttle kick as well... lol
This first one is $135 over budget but offers great flexability and the shuttle comes with 4 gb ram for free.

When will the grandma get him that OS?

It may but it's a really overpriced card for the performance it offers. The HD 7770 is significantly faster and costs around the same price. Hell the $120 HD 6770, a poor value now compared to the HD 7770, is still faster than the GTX 550 TI. The only reasons to get that card is A) one is a huge Nvidia fanatic to the point where loyalty trumps good value and B) you're doing extensive amount of work with Adobe software where Adobe work trumps gaming performance.

Normally I would say go all out on the quad core, but if the budget is tight @ $600, look at something like a 3GHZ ish i3 that has Hyperthreading, then put a little more into the GPU. If you can push the budget to the $800 - $1000 range then the quad core is a must.

When will the grandma get him that OS?

Update:

He has the OS. Still saving for the 22in lcd. 1680x1050.

I will use my newegg charge to get all the parts one shot. he is paying me off. So we can go over 600 but not by alot, say 700 not including tax to PA.

RODY:
Thank you for your input, but he rather a tower.

He is not brand loyal, so more bang for the buck is for him.

Thank you all for your time
