I have two 8800GT cards running in Windows 7 64 bit. I was previously using v195.62 drivers and when I attempted to install the v258.96 drivers I received the error, "You are running a 32 bit version of NVIDIA uninstaller on a 64 bit system (Binary type I386) Wrong version of uninstaller. Uninstaller exits now". Obviously there is something wrong because I had 64-bit drivers for most of the year running fine on this system.

Anyone has experience in dealing with this problem? There seems to be a large number of rather dubious solutions on the web including 'fixes' which involve major hacking of the registry. Something I would like to avoid if at all possible. If you've seen this problem before I would really appreciate to know how to deal with it. TIA

For anyone experiencing the same issue, I was able to rectify the problem by going into Safe Mode and removing old drivers using Driver Cleaner, upon which the installation proceeded as normal.
