i overclocked my q6600 to 3.3ghz and after like 3 hours the temps went from 66-69c so I just turned it off.

You aren't going to break anything at those temperatures but they're on the high side for that clock. What cooling system are you using? I'm guessing a stock setup. If so you might want to check out a Thermalright Ultra-120 (http://www.thermalright.com/new_a_page/product_page/product_cpu_cooler.html) and some MX-2 (http://www.arctic-cooling.com/further_prod2.php?idx=140).

judging from teh 30+ C jump, you may not have seated your heatsink correctly.

try to take off the cooler then remount it making sure that its nice and secure on the motherboard.

Before you get overly excited, what is your ambient temperature?

If you stay in a warm place where it's 30C+ outside, then you have to expect higher core temps than the guys living way up north.

69C is a tad high, so check your heatsink and airflow through the case.

What cooler are you using? If stock I wouldn't go over 3.0 with it. Also, like Thunder said, check your case airflow. Front and side sucking in, rear and top(optional) sucking out.

I'm sure it's fine

The folks with the E8400 with the smaller heatsinks run @ 69C @ 100% load.. WITHOUT overclocking on STOCK heatsink..
