Hi,

We have a single DFSN server in our domain and we are wanting to add a second DFS-N server in the event that 1 fails we can simply use 2 without any interruption to file access. What is the best way to actually do this? We have no DFS replication just a name space pointing to a couple of different filers etc

Thanks

Just add a new namespace server in the DFS management console, where are the actual files held though? As if they are held on the current namespace server then you'll need to setup DFSR between the two else its pointless having another namespace server if the files it points to won't be avaliable.

The files are on a couple of NetApp filers we have. The current DFS just links to the shares on the filers

DFS-N and DFS-R are 2 separate things.
If all you want to do is add another namespace server then just add it. It won't hurt anything or require any additional configuration.

Yep if the files are held elsewhere just add another namespace server as you'll be sorted.
