Amd Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core CPU - Photoshop Test

thank "puffcap" for the link...

Photoshop CS

i got 30.4 sec but i ran this test at STOCK speed not my current OC speed...

I get 37 sec.

With PSCS2 open, Task Manager open, and FF stopwatch open, with a count of 44 processes running that is my time.

I set PS to run in "Real Time" in the Task Manager. Before I did that I was getting 40 sec.

PC's specs are in my signature.

~23 seconds

Intel Core 2 Duo E4300 @ 2.38GHz (9x265)
ECS P4M800PRO-M V2
512MB DDR PC3200
160GB Maxtor PATA 7200RPM 8MB
Windows Vista Business
Adobe Photoshop CS3 Beta 2

What speed are you running that processor at, faster then 3.0?

2655mhz, EVGA 680I won't go over 300 fsb with the quad chips:mad: mine tops out at 295 can't wait for a fix "we're working on it" they say. All I want is 3.2 ghz.

I made a couple tests for comparison, since I use Photoshop a lot... This thread gives me a better understanding of how to improve my workflow. my rig is in sig, I used my w600i cellphone stopwatch. here are the deets (tests are in chronological order from first to last):

2.0 GHz flat stock: 42.2, 41.4, avg 41.8
2.54 GHz OC: 32.2, 34.2, 31.8, avg 32.0
2.64 GHz OC: 30.6, 30.6 avg 30.6

I next went to ATi and installed the AMD dual-processor optimization driver (dint have before). For the record, I have run my 3800+ at 2.68 stable for several months (on air only), but the slight increase vs harsh wear + heat on rig don't justify to me.

2.64 GHz OC w/ DPO: 31.4, 41.1, 30.8, avg 31.1
2.0 GHz flat stock w/ DPO: 42.8, 42.5 avg 42.6
2.48 GHz OC w/ DPO: 32.4, 32.4 avg 32.4

for the much lower voltages, and the reduced wear on my rig, I find 2.48 GHz a simple, stable OC. My ram hardly gets touched, but task mgr shows my cpu going 99-100% during test.My vid card doesn't even matter. Cheers.

~18 seconds

CS3 Beta
Vista Business x64
Dual Opteron 2214 (OC'ed to 2.3GHz)
Asus KFN5-D SLI
4GB PC2-5300 RAM

The X2 in my sig got 23 seconds, gonna test the Opty in a few minutes. This is using Photoshop CS2.

26 Seconds

Amd x2 3600+ 1.9 ghz Brisbane OC'd to 3.050 Ghz
Memory Running DDR 533 Divider / Running at 913 Mhz
2 x 512 mb Dual Channel OCZ Gold - Loose timings
Adobe Photoshop CS2

*Mental notes

Does CS3 have a better Algorithm / Coding to work with the newer CPU's
What can be done to make it go even faster. Does going to a 64 bit Version of vista Speed it up etc

/ end self thoughts

17.5 Seconds Flat........... with Photoshop CS3 and WindowsVista Ultimate x64 with my OC setup listed below

hmmm, what part of AMD ATHLON 64 X2 DUALCORE CPU photochop test didnt you understand ?

Got new motherboard from Evga 680i q6600 @ 3.21 2 gig memory windows xp
CS2 = 14 sec
CS3 = 8 sec

Got to love overclocked quad C2duo's

WTF....C2D @3200mhz, 3gb ram, and my rig is only getting 29 secs? That makes no sense at all, my X2 @2600 got faster times than that....

17.5 Seconds........... with Photoshop CS3 and WindowsVista Ultimate x64 with my Core2duo E6400 Overclocked to 3.20GHz

i wont cell my C2D for an AMD

i have the same cpu speed as u, the motherboard and ram could make a diference to.... well on top of that im using windows vista x64 and CS3 which runs faster then CS2

Guess you should sell your Core 2 Duo rig. :p :D

Trashing the C2D i see, well why dont you just run the test then on your machine, with CS2 and/or CS3 and lets see you get the time i did, and even on stock speed i get about 30sec.and that was with Windows XP SP2 X86 and CS2, and 15 Seconds OC speed with WindowsVista Ultimate x64 and CS3

Lets benchmark ..with my OC speed posted below i ran 3Dmark05 free version so the (feature test, and the batch size test) did not run..but besides that this is what i scored

3DMark Score............. 7092 (Radeon x850xt)
CPU Score................. 12127

CPU Test 1..................7.9 fps
CPU Test 2................. 8.3 fps

Post these Scores of yours for 3Dmark05 and lets rate.. Lets see what you AMD guys get compared to us C2D guys

Please don't fight, we're all just fellow computer users trying to get the most out of our systems!

Or compare first then smack talk....

heh,

if you read this thread for times, from front to back.

you can really see a huge performance difference.

Its pretty funny :) well... atliest interesting :)

i've OC my CPU to 3.6GHz, and using CS3 with Windows Vista Ultimate x64 i got
15sec

Well - just gave it a try on my new workstation.

Dell Precision 690 Pro Workstation
Windows Server 2003 Enterprise SP1
Photoshop CS2 9.02 - with the multiprocessor support patch http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=3447
Dual, Dual Core Xeon 5150 2.66Ghz 4x2MB Cache
8GB of DDR667 FB DIMM RAM
4GB of the ram is configured as a ramdisk with Qsoft Ramdisk Enterprise
Photoshop is configured to use 1.5GB of system ram and the ramdisk as the scratch disk.

Test ran in 15.875 seconds. I'm curious what Photoshop CS3 will do. I'll test it in a couple of weeks when I get that in.

hey ( MixManSC ) where did you get that "multi thread patch" from? and is there one for CS3 or i don't need it?

Actually it's a Multiprocessor support patch for CS2 and it says it's for machines with more than 4 processors (including hyperthreading) so even I did not technically need it although I do plan on eventually upgrading this machine to dual quad core. :D

There are no updates for CS3 yet.
