I don't get why they run seperate 4-pin and 8pin cables... why don't they all just do 4+4...

Yeah, thats weird I'm running my EA650 on my mobo using the 8pin on a 4pin mobo (there is just some hangover - come to think of it am I doing it wrong?)

Using both cables is common on dual CPU boards, so including both is fairly common on larger PSUs.

I'm thinking some people with case windows & boards that use a 4-pin probably don't like the 4+4 setup either. Having the other half just dangling there doesn't look as good as a 4-pin connector. The extra wire isn't that big of a deal, as you're just about always going to have to hide some spare wires if you're not using a modular PSU.

Plugging an 8-pin EPS12V into a 4-pin P4 12V connector is just fine. They were actually designed so that would work.
