... But what you're planning isn't a bad idea.

How often are you going to use the other slots? If you won't be using them often (like, at least once a week), it would be a better idea to buy a cheap USB hub (assuming that you either don't have enough USB ports or you don't want to constantly plug and unplug things from the back of the computer) and an "external" multi-card reader.
 
I like the idea of having a floppy drive in with the card reader. I think I'll get one like that next time, my current card reader just died on me.

Does the floppy on the card reader plug into the USB as well? Or can it be hooked up the the FDD cable on the mobo? (I ask because when I update my BIOS I use a floppy and I don't like it to be USB for reliability reasons).
 
The floppy drive uses a normal floppy cable.

And most of today's motherboards (as well as those made within the past couple of years) can perform a successful BIOS flash using a USB drive (though it's really a moot point in this case).
