Big Beta Kaput?

I got my first 8101 after a long time. I don't know if it's a server thing or if we really depleted the 690X stock, but it's OK for me either way.

I can only hope that this won't turn off (m)any folders in this team or elsewhere...

Off, probably not.

Slow the 4P growth..... prolly.

Grabbed an 8101 here as well, which really sux as i only have my 5640 rig running at the moment and its too slow to complete in time, Oh well back to SMP for now

I hope it's not the case but it seems like the 690X's are done - I'm getting nothing but 8101s on my 2p and 4p boxes.

They're not completely gone. I did get a 6904 on my 970 yesterday. Apparently they're only being released to 12 "core" machines at this time. Had a 8101 drop this am, so i'll find out what my 4P picked up in a few hours after I get out of work.

Resistance is futile...

That is a totally ironic response coming from you, in this thread. Considering you're one of the leaders of the underground resistance, if you know what I mean ;)

Not sure what is happening with 8101 but they seem to be getting faster, tpf is currently 2 minutes lower on Hood than they were before I shut down just over 3 weeks ago, and the current one is faster than the last one i uploaded yesterday. I was at 110k PPD, now i'm currently rocking 125k

Shhh do not speak to loudly and wake it up. The 8101's have wide variations in TPF they are unlike the 69xx series where the variation was usually within a minute one way or the other. I have seen variations of up to 5 min so far on the 8101's 2 1/2 min either side of 0.

Like I said do not talk too loudly and wake it up the next one could be a couple of min south of 0 rather than North of it.

Just outta curiosity, if the 690x units are really gone, will a 2P 6176 still do an 8101 on time?

No reason why 6176 shouldn't make it. Hope this helps. Here are my 2P numbers.

***Been missing here for a while. Had all intentions of building a 4P or two to help overtake EVGA but had to replace both of my A/C units so all of my 4P budget has been depleted.

I did a quick check on HFM point calculator and big point drop off with TPF over 34m 45sec

My 48 core rig hasn't done anything other than P8101 for the last 10+ WU's. I've tried both the -bigadv and -bigbeta flags.

Pretty much only 8101's for me the past two weeks or so. Though one of my 2P's did get a 6097 this morning.

The preferred deadline is 2.4 days, so at a 27m frame average, you'll finish it in about 45 hours, leaving 12.6 hours to upload before the qrb points go away.

You'll be fine with 2x 6176 procs. I run a 2P ASUS with a couple of 6168's and make the deadline fine.

For the last 3 weeks, all my G34 rigs just got down the P8101, not a single 690x has come down during this time. As I understand it only 12 core machines can fold 690x WUs in the future, or as long as they last.

I have set my SR2 with 2 x Xeon 5645 running at 3.6GHz to boot with HT disable, so this is folding only 690x WU for the moment. I chose to do this to bring down the heat and get it to run stable at 3.6GHz. If I choose to run the SR2 with HT enable and the 8101 I must clock down to 3.5GHz to get it stable. I can not in any way interpret this as cheating, but I have seen that some believe this to be just that.

To fold for the folding@home is a voluntary task that only involves nothing but costs for me as a donor, and I must therefore allow me to do the task the most affordable manner for my self. I would really want to fold the 690x on my G34 rigs as well, but since this option is blocked on the work server, I choose to let them fold the 8101 only. I do not like it because of the heat and the wear on my servers. The alternative is to shut them down, or fold the standard smp, but I choose to let them fold the damned 8101 for as long as it take.

When I try to write about this at the folding forum I was censored in the way that my messages was deleted. As a result I choose to keep away from the folding forum over at Stanford.

-alias-, I would not consider what you did on your SR-2 as doing anything wrong, but I don't manage (nor want to) FAH policy. I view what you have done solely as a hardware change that is your privilege to do so (no software tricks being implemented). What you are doing is basically the same as I do by enabling HT on my 980X. If I don't enable HT, I don't get a 6904. If adjusting HT so that a person has a chance of receiving a 6904 is a problem, then all Hexacore HT rigs would be in violation. Not a problem to me...:D

The official FF are not a friendly place. I don't go there much at all, so I can not be sure, but I think it is filled with asshats.

Yeh, the only reason I go there is for the DAB.

Everything I need to get my folding on is right here.

There are good mod(s) there that will help you if you have a legit wu problem...
But for most of my problems I stay local unless I have narrowed it down to a Wu problem.

Currently 1 asshat + good lass has banished the biggest asshat for a day... we shall see if the problems start decreasing and it become more friendly overall.

I venture over there to try and keep abreast of whats going on, most of the users are fine, but as patriot says there are a couple of asshats over there who get away with anything and are rude to allcomers.

Lets try keeping to the topic guys - this isnt a thread for grief about FF.

Looks like some of these 8101's are taking longer and longer to process. My dual E5645 didn't complete the last one before the preferred deadline - so I guess no bonus points for that one. Wonder if I'd be better off just running regular SMP on that box.

Turn HT off. That will bring you to 12 threads and you should be able to get the 690x WU.

I would, i get about 50k PPD out of my dual L5640 box, it misses the deadlines on 8101 by a wide margin. The last test that someone did reported that at least x5650 cpu's were needed to make the deadline reliably. even x5670's only have about 8 hours spare

I just brought another 48 cores online between 2 boxes:)
