well, as the title states,
can i use a norco 4224 with out the backplanes?

i want to build my flexraid server using sata port multiplers, and i want to use a 24bay case. can i just remove thebackplanes, and make my own power cables and then use sata cables?

cheers

Why not save yourself a ton if headaches and just use a SAS expander like everyone else? It is possible however.

from what i can gater the norco backplanes are somewhat unreliable.

and i want to basically put my current desktop setup in this case, and expand my desktop from 18TB to 60+tb

cheers

I did this with an old pata case, just not quick at swapping anymore because you have to open the case to add or remove a drive.

how well does it work? im not after speed from my flexraid array, just large pooling with parity

mrmagoo_83, how well did your server work? as buy using sata port expanders i would save room in my case aswell as the expense of raid cards and HBA's. i know that there would be more cables, but i am good at cable management, so that shouldnt be a problem.
