Canon MP280 printing photos too light

My MP280 is for some reason not printing photos with the correct color intensity. Documents it'll do fine, photos it'll do fine, and it works great in grayscale. Colour photos, on the other hand, are far too faint. Here's an example:

The head is clean, the drivers are up to date, the printer's in good nick, and it does everything else just fine. What could be causing this?

edit: I've tweaked with all the colour intensity settings, the contrast, colour matching, all of it. No change whatsoever.
