Don't know how many fans of nice shoes out here, but pretty good deals here:

http://www.colehaan.com/outlet-clearance-men

Picked up a $270 pair of cole haas for 90 bucks, most / all are shop runner eligible (I still have the free one from 3 years ago I got lol, keeps re-upping me...).

Hope this helps some guys. Nice shoes for work in an office /field visits.

I'm in need of a new pair(s) for work. I've never spent more than 100 on a pair. Having never heard of Cole Haan before, are these worth the normal price quality wise? I typically wear out a pair of dress shoes in 3-4 months. Don't mind paying a little more for something that can last a little longer.

No, not even close. As a 350 dollar shoe, they are shit. As a 120 dollar shoe, much better. As a 100 dollar shoe, yea that's about right.

I picked up some lunar grand's during the last one for 79 and i think i got a good deal. I'd probably paid as high as 130-140 for them, however retail was like 249 or 279... eeh, no way.

Nice deal OP, I'll prob pass since these are final sale and I'm not sure what I wear in CH casual shoes. Have a few of their dress leathers though.

They're a quality American brand in that $100-$200 range before you start getting into European designer labels in that $300+ range. I generally only buy them for dress leathers and stick to cheaper brands that I don't care about beating up for work shoes (I go through a lot of Rockport), but I did see some casual/comfort styles in there like the LunarGrand uni-sole designs that would be good for business casual office/work environments. I wouldn't buy them at full price, but with this sale they should come out to $80 or so which isn't so bad and not that far off what I spend for Rockports.

I'm incredibly rough on shoes too. High-end leather is where you want to be. Namely full or top-grain. Good leather lasts almost forever with minor (and cheap) maintenance. If you spend enough and get something you truly like - getting them resoled is a great investment. Just taking a cursory glance over their shoes - durability wise I can't say I endorse them. Although that is entirely speculative.

Used or new works. I'd recommend looking at the leather shoes that have been on Massdrop and double checking reviews online or cutting straight to the chase and going to Reddit. Different leather creases differently, wrinkles differently, patinas differently, is softer or harder, more or less resistance to scratches, etc#, etc#.

Break-even point for three $150-300 dollar shoes over cheaper shoes for me is roughly 2 years (which is kind of silly for something so comparatively cheap - I know) but you have much better shoes that entire time and depending on how you wear them, you can expand your rotation from that point and keep it going. I have one pair I can see myself having a decade from now.

Pretty sure Cole Haan is all made overseas. The last American leather shoe maker I know of is Allen Edmonds. They have frequent sales, are bench made in Wisconsin with a 360 degree stitched welt, you can specify width and sole type, and can re-craft for about $100. My favorite last is #65 so over the years I purchased a black park ave, bourbon strand, and merlot mcallister. Don't think I paid more than $250 for any of them. They will last forever if waxed and stored in trees. I believe Saphir makes the best polish.

There are nicer shoes, but they come from Europe.

Cole Haan is stylish, but the durability isn't that good. For sub $150 they are okay, if you like the style. If you want a sub $150 durable business shoe Ecco's are durable, though maybe not the highest fashion.

I've been wearing Cole Haan since about 1992. The quality has definitely gone downhill.

I can't remember for sure, but I believe they sold out to Nike? Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

I still have a few pairs from the 90's that are in decent shape, but all of the newer pairs...the leather cracked quickly.

I wouldn't pay more than a $150 a pair.

Best,

Liquid Cool

I have a couple of recent pairs of Cole Haan shoes. One casual sneaker and a wingtip oxford. Got both on sale of course. Having owned them for two years I can attest that the quality is definitely lacking. Would not buy again. Ecco dress shoes are better quality for the price.

Ba Ba Bingo!!

What he said.

I love their drivers. Not like they used to be, but solid upscale shoes.

Red Wing Shoes still is American made (in most of their lines), though typically more boot style.

Most dress shoes I see people wearing are junk. I have no problem spending money on stuff I use everyday like glasses, shoes, bedding, belts, wallet...

Forgot about Alden and I own Red Wing 3508 safety boots that held up well over 9 months of light duty on a construction site. They are heavy but keep water out, are 8-in, have a steel shank, and have a green triangle (required for most job sites in Canadia). Rub Obenaufs on your work boots and they will last a long time. It was designed by a fireman.

Some of my favorite shoes are from Gaziano & Girling but way too expensive for me.

Also get yourself a 2-ply bullhide gun belt. I am pretty sure anything you find in a store is junk by comparison. I've tried many and my favorite is a 1-3/4 in with roller buckle and 3/4 hole spacing from:

http://www.thebeltman.net/

He and his partner have a long lead time and it will be super stiff at first but it breaks in after a few months. They are worth every penny.

Also own a nice elephant belt from:

Have a good 4th. Get drunk and play with fireworks.

Dont get me wrong, I only buy em on sale, for my nicer ones I like my Johnston and Murphys (If i am not mistaken those are still US made).....as for quality, its not too bad for me, been wearing a pair of slip ons for over a year daily and they have held up quite well with no care at all..

Anyhow looks like its a dead deal like 5 hours after I posted lol.
