Are these Crucial Ballistix safe to get? Seems like everywhere I go people are complaining about them failing. I don't plan on ocing them alot but might a little. This is kind of driving me nuts I hate paying for things that break right away.

My alternatives would be these A-Data ones

or these Mushkin ones.

The A-Data also use D9s and according to one review they run hot so they might not be any better.

If you're worried about memory failing, then you definitely want to stick to a brand that will honor the warranty. Crucial would be one such company. My set have been great.

i've yet to have a set of ballistix die on me, but take that with a grain of salt because i push my ram really hard and have used... hm, 5 or 6 kits now? :p

I had one stick of a PC6400 Ballistix Tracer set die but the RMA process through crucial has been seemless. Expect a replacement any day now.

Ballistix PC8500 2x1GB sticks here. And knock on wood, all is good. I used to be a die hard g.skill fan, but know my first choice will be crucial first, g.skill 2nd. I never had to RMA ram with crucial yet, but RMA with G.Skill is seemless. I sent them my ram with a tracking number, they OVERNIGHTED my replacement sticks free of charge. Total downtime for PC was less then 24 hours......G.Skill has excellent customer support.

While you got all of these positive reviews, you also have tons of negative. I'm a negative one. I have 8 sticks of the PC8500 (from the 2x 1GB kit) and all run like crap. I have to underclock them in order for them to work error free. If you can't run them at advertised ratings, then they're junk, IMO.

Feel free to see this long post that has been accumulating over 2 years about Ballistix.

Crucial memory is a safe bet. :) Adata and Mushkin memory are nice too but they may not have as much board compatiblity as Crucial.

I'm just gonna try the A Data. According to one review they are actually slightly faster than the Ballistix. They are only 49.99 NOT including the rebate and this way I can order all my new parts together from newegg which is cutting 10 bucks off of shipping.
