Dell selling 1Tb drives starting today

...and raid 1 is probably not the default option when ordering those systems

According to my calculations, it's $340 more than the $280 Raptor. Total price is therefore $620. Sixty-two cents a gigabyte? No thanks, I'd rather have two 750s for less money.

Hitachi said back earlier this year that they targeted a 400$ price range for their 1TB drives at retail.

So either they cant live up to that, or Dell is marking them up big time. Probably a combination of both, as I doubt they will hit 400$ for the first couple months they are out.

Hey, it's just continueing the grand old computing tradition that cutting edge hardware is horrible value for money, no matter what the performance numbers are. This is speaking purely from a value for dollars standpoint, mind you.
