i'm buying a Conre pc soon
i know that next year i'll upgrage my video card for a D3D10 one..
if i'll buy now 7600GS will it be enough for me to hold for less than a year?
or is it so bad that i better go for 7600gt?

i'm planning to run games at 1024X768 / 1280X1024...

If you're going the 7600 route I would strongly suggest the 7600GT especially if you plan to play @ 1280x1024

u c i'm not a hardcore gamer, only when i have time.. so maybe a game per month or so (at best)
so if 7600gs can run ok some of the newest FPS and car racing games, no need for the highest details, that's good enough for me.
if you'll tell me that it won't go, than i'm buying 7600gt or maybe even 1800gto

btw.. can i work on my pc and simultaneously see a movie through TV-OUT on one of these cards?

If you can afford a GT, there may be a few other options out there for you. IMO if you get the GT, you'll be ok. By ok, I mean that you'll be able to play most games medium to high with minimal AA/AF/HDR @ 1280x1024. If you have a smaller display and you dont mind 10x7, then youll be even better off.

Here is what I'd get:

7600gt

GL

i have a 7600gs and have it running all of my games (bf2, far cry, dod: s) at 1280x1024 at med settings with HDR enabled, and Oblivion at 1024x768 at medium settings with Bloom enabled. Its oc'ed pretty decently, but I'm happy with my purchase, especially considering its performance when paired with my Sempron 3000+

Thats a pretty sweet budget build you got there. Pretty similar to the one I just built for my girlfriend.

ah nm my last post
I got duped
the 7600gs I was looking at was the ddr2 version. I cant find the gddr3 ver. anywhere either

afaik Galaxy is the only maker of the 7600gs GDDR3 card, and they are a european manufacturer. Don't know if we'll see it in the states, but even if we do it will probably be close in price to a 7600GT anyway.

i'm in new zealand and I saw one for 200NZ$ which is like 120US$ atm
but I didn't see the ddr2 part

What exactly are your current system specs?
Car racing games tend to be cpu bound as well. If you didn't know ati is clearancing x800xl's if you're still on agp for $119. That card is better than a 7600 aside from its lack of SM 3.0 if that matters to you. Otherwise if you're on pci-e then $150 can net you a very nice hold over card depending on what exactly you're looking for.

The 7600 GS is a nice card for playing at 1024x768, medium settings. It is slightly faster (%10-20) than a 6600 GT,

At $100 or so, it is a nice bargain, but it will not have the longevity of the 7600 GT. Maybe you don't play a LOT of games, but so long as they're new, you'll want all the 3D horsepower you can get. You'll thank us for insisting on the 7600 GT a year from now, when you're still using it to play the latest games.

For example, if you want to play Oblivion with HDR 1024x768, you need a 7600 GT as an absolute minimum. Newer games like Crysis will stress video cards even further.

i'm planning to buy a core 2 due E6400/6600 vs 2GB of ram..
currently i've Radeon 9800pro (agp), and i need to upgrade it to pci-e for the new system.. till i buy D3D10 card (when it available)

Go X1800GTO. There's a chance you can flash to 16 pipes and you can volt mod through hex value changes in bios. I've got a 7600GT KO, good card and all, but the X1800GTO, even though slower at stock, has more potential than the 7600GT

I was asking for your current system specs because I believe whatever you're about to get you won't be using with your conroe right? It really depends how much you wanna folk over $$-wise and what resolution you plan to run. The 7600gs would be adequate for just over $100 if you didn't plan to exceed 1280x1024 with max AA. Then again its only $30-50 more to go from the gs to the gt. Then again another $50 gets you the aforementioned 1800gto.

For Crysis you'll want a new DX10 card anyway ;)

In terms of cost/performance the 7600gt is indeed by far the best value on the market right now, but if you're going to be getting a DX10 card for vista in the not so distant future, the 30-40$ you save now by getting a 7600gs is another 30$-40$ you can expand your budget for that dx10 card.

bottom line, if you're going to be doing a standard 2 year upgrade cycle, the 7600gt is for you. If you're just holding over for that DX10 card, then look into a 7600gs.

yeah i guess u are right... i'll go for the GS version, hopefully it'll hold for 8-10 month nicely
thank u all..
i better go for silentpipe version or it doesn't really matter?

p.s hhh i live in Israel here it's not 30-40$ more for the GT, it's more like 90$...
cheapest 7600GS cost here 135$, and 7600GT 225$ at least

7600gs is crap.... if u want a decent card with go0d value... go for x1800gto! im getting one so0n!

or u can go for 7800gtx

Cut the man some slack, lloose :p.

The 7600GS is a fine card, hope you get lucky with some good memory that'll let you take it to 1000mhz. GDDR2 is what binds the speed of that card. Core has been seen to able to do 600mhz+ with a little volt modding. I used to own one before and was quite pleased...then I got the 7600gt :D.

Edit: for punctuation

Yea.. I should lay off a little bit :)

Honestly, the 7600gs is a great card. I got to play around with one the other day and I was really impressed at how it handled a few games. I played Graw on medium settings and got well above 30fps. I then played the fear demo without a hitch. Its a GREAT midrange/budget card.

one last thing, if i add some extra $$
what would be the better choice:

7600GS Extreme/OC edition
6800
or X800GTO

and... are they much better than ordinary 7600GS?
thnx.

i'd still just skip the 7600GS, maybe the 6800, but what version? and the X800... probably X850XT.

I running 2 x Galaxy 7300gt 128mb DDR3 in SLI that enable me to play Oblivion at 1680x1050 with HDR and 8xAF. And the cost is just around 190usd after conversion from my currency rate. I bet any single card 7600gt or x1800gto can do that. I running the card at the speed at 585mhz core and 1700mhz memory. Also my cards come with zalman cooler as default cooler which is somewhat a bonus gift :)
