DVDs burn really slow

All of a sudden it takes 25min to burn DVDs when it took 5min before. I went through many different disks so it's not the media. I did many different movies. I reinstalled Nero twice and the second time it was a newer update. I reinstalled the mobo drivers. It says it's burning at 16x, but it's not. I can barely hear my burner spin. I watch movies and play games and the drive is working flawlessly. What else is left?

Try the DVD burner in another PC. If it still burns slow there then the burner is dying.

Is the drive set to DMA in Device Manager?

Click start
control panel
performance & maintence
system
hardware
device manager
double click IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers
right click each drive and select properties
click advanced settings, everything should be DMA, not PIO.
You may have to do the same thing with the burner.

It's SATA so it didn't have those settings.

That would be bad. My PC is 3 months old.

Install any Starforce protected games lately? Some of the versions use driver replacement as a part of the means of copy protection. That can sometimes really muck with cd/dvd drives performance.

Search for "starforce" in regedit to find out if it is there. Google for uninstall procedures if it is.
However, any starforce protected games you have will prolly stop working if it is removed.
