Elden Ring (From Software RPG)

The Dark Souls 2 DLC was a slog and I hated every second of it.

huh?...the Dark Souls 2 DLC totally redeemed the game and was the best part...I think most people think that...the base game was a bit lackluster but the 3-part DLC was amazing

And I don't agree with those people. I could tolerate Sunken King, but Old Iron King has me wanting it to end by the time I'm a third of the way through it, and I don't ever want to do Ivory King again.

the Scholar of the First Sin re-release also helped the game immensely in my opinion

Back in March, a rumor regarding a new RPG developed by From Software with George RR Martin consulting/writing started circulating online....while it’s no surprise that the developer is working on a new game, the fact that this game is allegedly written by A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R Martin made the rumor quite noteworthy...and it seems like this game is indeed real and will be announced soon

A post on 4Chan shared more details on this game, which is apparently going to be called Great Rune and it will have a Norse Mythology theme...the game is considered to be the true successor to the Dark Souls game, but it will bring some drastic changes to the formula...the game will apparently be announced during Microsoft’s E3 2019 press conference...

It’s interesting sometimes, going back and re-reading the original post… Great Rune! Just doesn’t have the same ring as Elden Ring.

Has anyone started a new Elden Ring run in prep for the DLC? I started a new game. Don't plan on finishing it but it's a good opportunity to get used to the controls again.

I'm still blown away by the complexity of Stormveil Castle. The sheer amount of paths, verticality, and the interconnectedness of it all. It's just wild. I feel like you can spend an easy 10 hours in Stormveil alone.

I’ve been playing like crazy in preparation for the DLC. I have a NG character on a mostly completionist run, map totally cleared out, and a NG+7 character around level 350 with two of every weapon, every spell, incantation, piece of armor etc. Going to play the DLC with the NG character first and then with the NG+7, it’ll be interesting to see how the difficulty scales.

Do you have a good build for the standard battle axe? I'm a glutton for punishment with the souls type games and never do ranged or magic to cheese stuff.

My preference for a melee only build is to focus on strength, endurance, and vigor, and to use a weapon that does high poise damage. My favorite early game weapon for this is the lordsworn greatsword, which you can get immediately. Grab a 100% physical damage negation shield and focus on guard counters and timed charged R2’s. If I was going to stick with that axe I would get a second one (can buy from twin maiden husks) to powerstance and focus on jump attacks.

Started a vagabond two weeks ago and 35hours in now, around level 80, made it to start of the land of the giants. I also have a old mage character at level 205, waiting for dlc in Mohgs room :)

Fearsome foes of unfathomable power await you in the Realm of Shadow...

I have pity on anyone who would take a day off from work to play a game. What you really want to do is play the game AT work. Failing that… punch in… then ‘excuse yourself’ and return later on.

From Software has shared promo art of a new NPC, and fans are speculating that it's St. Trina of the Cradlesong...St. Trina is an androgynous knight of sleep and dreams frequently mentioned in the descriptions of weapons and tools that inflict the "sleep" status on enemies...it's been a popular fan theory for some time that she's a Batman-like alter ego to Miquella, the demigod at the center of Shadow of the Erdtree's story...

No more Elden Ring =) There I complained my main complaint is the world is too big.
I really don't think I'll pick this up unless...

There is nothing coming out till August for AAA titles really.

In an interview with PC Gamer, Miyazaki hints at how massive Elden Ring's expansion truly is

From Software has been playing coy about the size of Shadow of the Erdtree, the Elden Ring expansion now more than two years in the making...in past interviews the developer has suggested it's roughly the size of Limgrave, the starting area in the base game...maybe even a little bigger...but I spent a full day playing Shadow of the Erdtree at From Software's offices in Tokyo last month, and I can assure you that estimate is sneakily setting the studio up to underpromise and overdeliver

Not only is the landmass likely bigger than you're expecting, it's more intricate than any existing part of Elden Ring's map, with cliffs and canyons that require puzzling out how you can reach one point for another...anyone who tries to make a beeline for each map fragment is going to run into more than a few surprises...

It sounds like it will be about 1/3rd the size of the base game, which is a massive expansion. 10 main bosses, likely around 50 mini-bosses. This is what I gathered from information available.

For DS3 both expansions combined were 6 bosses. So it's probably 66% bigger than DS3 expansions combined, not factoring in the open world exploration.

the new melee combat with fists as well as dual wielding daggers look really impressive...Elden Ring has the best weapon variety of any of the From Software Souls games

they undersold just how massive the base game was prior to release and I'm expecting the same with the DLC
