gts 250 vs gtx260 216

whats ~PPD difference between the two?
Unfortunately, it is getting harder and harder to tell these days. There are so many new projects out there and they all run at different rates. On average, maybe a 2K PpD difference. IDK though to be honest, it's really tough to say.

yes, when it comes to folding, it usually works best to buy the best you can at the moment
that and don't worry about the future, the next best thing will always come out the day after you buy your parts

would you spend $45 extra on the 260 216 vs a 250?
I would. The only cards I will be buying going forward are GTX260 216's or greater or 9800GX2's.

This should give you a good idea.

This should give you a good idea.
Yeah, more proof that there is no longer a linear increase in PpD as the GPU improves. On some projects, my 8800GT does better than my GTX 260. One can no longer say that X card will give better performance than Y card for all WUs.

yep i know but he wanted a comparison. The gts 250 beats the living shit out of a gtx 275 on the 350 pointers, it's insane.

Hmm...hey osrk, do you have any more data available? I'd love to get my hands on it to see if I can come up with a way to rank cards.

well i bought a 260 216 off of a fellow [H] member, so hopefully i'll have it crunching by the end of next week :D

all depends on the WU's and how many shaders the WU requires.. the stuff thats coming from the PS3 WU's being converted to GPU WU's to be validated do not require a ton of shaders since the WU's were limited by the amount of cells in the ps3 which is far less then what even the 8800GT has for shaders.. thus the 8800GT's out perform the GTX 260 because the shaders can be clocked up to 1836mhz on stock cooling vs the GTX 260 which maxes out at 1512/1566(if your lucky).. so thats where you see the difference in some of the WU's.. stuff like the 1888 point WU's require a ton of shaders thus the GTX series out performs all older series cards.. but in the end there are more WU's that require more then 112 or 128(GTS 250/9800GTX(+)/8800GTS) so its better to go with the card that has the most shader processors then to go with one that has far less.. that 45 dollars more will pay for about 2k-2500 PPD more on average then not spending it and getting the GTS 250..

good, then i made the right choice :)

whats great is it's not going in my i7 rig, so that way all my i7's powa can go into SMP (and bigadv eventually) :D

THis completely defuncts my GPU guide now, I will have to redo the guide...... =[

I pretty gave you everything I can give you the entire benchmark file if you want if someone tells me where they are located.

i think i made the right choice :D

sdy why you running that 920 so slow? there's a lot of hidden ppd in that rig

because there is something wrong with my rig. I can't even touch my bclk without my motherboard not posting. The guy i purchased from took a video of my exact stuff (ram/mobo/cpu) running @ 3.6ghz when it was in his possession, so I'm thinking it's my PSU (even tho it shouldnt be) So my new PSU should be here soon. At which point i'm going to sell this POS ECS mobo and get an Asus P6T6 from a member here. Then I can get my chip up to 4.1Ghz (which is what the guy I purchased it from had it running at, although not on the ECS mobo)
