Help with Ancient switch?

I have just inherited a Xylogics microAnnex els.

It's a 16 port switch. It also has one more ethernet port that looks like it could be removed, as well as an AUI transciever that also looks like it comes out.

Any of the "regular" ports I plug it into, nothing lights up. However, I plug my iBook into the "extra" ethernet port and it lights up, runs at 10mb, with a self assigned IP. I have no way of getting into the switch's controls (tried telnetting, etc), and there's a hole marked of ffor the reset button, but theres no button there. I turn it on and the lights come on and I think it even has a fan because I hear whirring and feel air coming out of the vent.

Anyone have experience with this dinosaur?

That's not a switch, it's a terminal server. RJ-45 is commonly used for serial ports on networking equipment.
