I mean this little quips about tech support outsourcing jokes, curry smell, overpopulation, etc. you always see in Indian-based stories. You'll almost never see such quips if it were a Hispanic or African country for instance.

Like on this forum, you make an Indian joke, its all good and you get a pass. You make fun of blacks or hispanics, your ass is grass. Just don't like the hypocrisy, that's all. :confused:

Why is there such negative sentiment about this? If they are able to successfully reach Mars, they'll be the world's first space program to successfully drop a payload on Mars in their first attempt. Launching is the first step, and they've pulled it off. More space-faring nations is always a good thing. Remember as well that the last space-race was a period of huge growth and technological innovation for the US, not to mention a rallying point for national unity. Another one would be a huge boon that allows us to use our vast aerospace manufacturing and tech resources for something besides blowing shit up. This is a good thing for India and Earth however you slice it. Why find negative junk to fixate on?
 
Sweet Jesus. All you guys should take a break. The bigotry and negativity is sickening. This is an achievement for mankind. The budget for the Mars mission was $73 million. The movie "Gravity" had $100 million budget. Just think about that for a second.

India's space research organisation called ISRO is self funding by offering launch vehicles to other smaller countries. They make their own revenue. They barely get any money from India's GDP anyway. It's incredible that they managed to do this with what little they got. Even if they don't actually make it to Mars.

Space tech is good. Saves lives even.

It's not racism because I don't hate anyone based on their race or skin color. People can make jokes on racial issues without having any sort of prejudice. Hell, I made a jab about the Irish and none of them are up in arms.

I think most people are actually rather happy for India making its way to Mars. At least, those that care about technology.

It's a matter of the principle. These jokes are only excused because nobody considers Indians to be "victims". Similar types of jokes about other demographics would be banned forthwith, whether you consider them racist or not. Nobody would discuss whether the statements were a result of hatred or prejudice, because the bans would come down so fast there wouldn't be a chance. As I said, some groups are more "equal" than others. It's a double standard, and it's utter bullshit.

However, its just the hypocrisy which irks me.

- a bank

No one mentioned curry smell. "Tech support outsourcing jokes" are not racist, they are jokes about India. Making a joke about Chinese going to Mars to get away from the smog wouldn't be racist, it's a joke about China, get it? The note about moving population isn't racist either.

When they've got clean water and sanitation for most of their population then the argument is reduced. I'm not saying no space programs till everyone has an LED TV in every room, but India has critical problems that aren't addressed.

The poorest people in the USA right now are living a life millions of Indians don't even dream of.
 
And yeah, India is so bad if you're a Western traveler you have to get stuffed full of vaccines and medicines meant to counter ancient diseases eradicated in the West, and even then pretty much everyone assumes you're going to get violently ill during your trip anyway.

Not true of the US, or Europe, or hell even parts of Africa, or China...India sucks.

Except that hardly any of the money for India's space program comes from government coffers. They make their money by sending payloads into space for other nations that can't afford their own program, and the entire thing is likely to become completely self-sufficient riding off the success of this mission. You'd rather have astrophysicists try to solve over-population instead of doing their job and sending things into space just because the nation they are located in has social problems? Please.
