Want a new rig to play future diablo 3, guild wars 2, old republic and play witcher 2 and sc2 right now i have a dual core amd 3.2ghz, 4gb and 8800gt 512mb.

possible new system:
Intel® Core™ i7-2600K (8MB Cache)
8GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1333MHz
1.5GB GDDR5 NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 580
1TB SATA 3Gb/s (7,200RPM) 32MB Cache

Came from a similar system myself (e6750, 8800GTs in SLI, 4GB RAM) to a similar build (see sig) and I can tell you the difference was night and day. Only thing you are missing is a SSD.

What resolution are you using? The GTX580 is a little overpriced. I'd go with a 570 or something in the AMD range like a 6970 or a 6950.

The 2600k offers no real measurable performance increase in gaming over the i5-2500k for $100 cheaper. Unless you do a ton of video encoding or other cpu-intensive tasks, you could save yourself $100 by just going with the 2500k.

The 580 is likely going to be overkill for those games you mentioned. I'm going to second piscian and suggest either a GTX570 or a 6950/6970.

Then I suggest you wait for the ATI refresh and yes get a 2500K. Silly to get a 2600K instead at this time.

Alright well its done i decided to go with the setup i said in the first post.

I have an i7 920 stock. Is there any use for me to upgrade my proc for gaming? Using a 6970 card. Mostly thinking of BF3.

not saving 100 bucks, going with the 2600k, (if you strictly use the PC for gaming) is pretty absurd.
The only reason that cpu is much more expensive is the HT, and I seriously doubt we will see that feature become a popular thing for games. AMD is doing things differently with their Bulldozer cpus and Intel would have to persuade Microsoft and Sony to put it in the next gen of consoles.

Also, ditch the 580gtx and get a single 6950. If you find your performance lacking in the future, get another (possibly cheaper at that time) 6950 and crossfire them.

i use the pc for more than gaming as well just one of the main things, also do Video editing, Graphic design, web development etc.

Your video card won't make much of a difference. The video editing may make good use of the Core i7 2600K over the 2500K, depending on the actual software you use.
