Is it just me? (CL poor design?)

I think I would buy an X-Fi Platinum, to allow me to use the SPDIF connectors in the future... But personally I just think it is moronic to make people install cables (needlessly) to the front of a PC. For two reasons - aesthetics and frankly many PC's have doors there.

I'd buy the XtremeMusic version - but the mic input is shared with the digital output. Um is that not stupid?

I'm not trying to insult anyone - including CL, to me this stuff is so basic - that I'm thinking that my "opinions" are just wrong. Serious question here - can someone explain the logic of these items? I have been "happy" with on-board audio, but decided now it is time to make the move - and I'm having trouble deciding what board to get.

Thanks.

The breakout box for the Pro version is the best design. The cost on that unit is bananas though, so most people wont even go there. I personally like the drive bay units. Its easy to connect/disconnect the headphones and control the volume physically.

I agree on the mic issue. It's a kludge.. I had to buy a usb mic for BF2.
