I just switched from onboard sound (generally realtek) for about 5 years, to an X-Fi.
Holy crap.
WAVs sound 10x better (I am working on ringtones for ~20 people)
And mp3s sound horrid comparatively. I am sure they sound the same as they used to, but that just isn't good enough anymore.
It *almost* makes me wonder if there's something wrong with the card or the drivers, they sound that poorly.. but holy crap do the wavs sound awesome.
