LIRC and IR Blaster

I'm having a bugger of a time getting a single instance of LIRC to server dual duties for both recieving IR from my remote *and* running a serial port IR blaster to control my satellite box. Has anyone gotten LIRC set up this way? I see several HOWTO guides that reference this, but they are all based on older versions of lirc (0.7.2) and older kernel versions (up to 2.6.9).

I'm using LIRC 0.8.0 and kernel 2.6.16-r7 (gentoo).

You're going to have to elaborate a little on your setup. IR hardware?

Sorry about that... I was quite vague.

IR Reciever: PVR-250 (lirc-i2c)
IR Transmitter: Serial IR Blaster from http://irblaster.info

I'm trying to follow the instructions I found here:

Except that I'm using lirc 0.8.0
