Merging partitions

Over the weekend, I deleted the old 10.8 recovery partition as I no longer needed it.
My question is, if I merge the now empty partition with another partition on the same drive that has data, will it result in data loss?

You will be able to merge the two partitions without data loss. It's similar to removing a Bootcamp partition, but I would still recommend making a backup just in case.
