Does anyone have a recommendation for an enclosed server/networking rack? I need it to have enclosed cable management and be able to lock it up because it wil be in an area where non IT folk will have access to.

What is your budget? How much space do you want? What will go in this rack?

My recomendation is ebay or craigslist.

Although I don't have any useful suggestions without knowing what will go in the racks, I do give you props for titling your thread to catch the attention of every person on this board.

Budget = $1500
Height = 42U
It's going to have a patch panels (ethernet and fiber) as well as a switch, server, UPS etc. Basically it's going to be a one rack closet.

With that budget you can buy just about any rack out there with shipping, greatlakes, sharkrack, apc, dell, hp, ibm, dsi, etc.

My personal favorites would be DSI, Dell, HP, and Great Lakes.

sorry guy had have to say this...

My girlfriend has a nice one but you can't have it.

I like my racks to have a sheer front door so I can get a good view of the equipment inside.

it does have that option. I use it st night. Sadly what is underneath is top secret so I could never show you that.

This thread is so far gone...

That being said, that's some real nice equipment, how much did you pay for it ?

Is it high maintenance?

I kid I kid :)

I got mine thru CL for $50. It's in great shape, and very sturdy! I suggest peaking thru CL!

With the current economy, I would definitely check with Craigslist.

Have you checked with your TelCom / linepuller ? They usually have some inside track to other clients selling junk or others buying.

I recently went in with another client on some racks. Saved on shipping and got a discount on the quantity from the retailer.

42U enclosed rack can get pricey...

Thanks for the input guys and some *ahem* examples. I've been looking through CL and ebay although haven't found what I needed. The real big thing for me is being able to have cable management enclosed in the case. That being said I'm am heavily leaning towards a 750mm wide Netshelter SX.

Every rack out there has some form of cable managemen or can be added to the rack with little problem.

However, the NetShelter is a nice unit. If you prefer a wide cabinet, look at the wide NetShelter and GreatLakes racks.

Dude, your sister has a nice rack! ;)

I kid.

Where's the rest of her? Nice middle, hows the rest.

I'd also recommend Craigslist for local racks to save on shipping. Otherwise, with a $1500 budget, you have a LOT of options. APC may even have something for you. Good luck, and don't forget to post pics of what you finally get and it all setup (geek porn!)

I've always used the Netshelters if I have my choice. They are some of the nicest racks for the money. There's also a ton of accessories for them too like different fan setups, cable management, PDUs, etc.

i remember the last i need a rack thread. went in the same direction =)

As all rack needed threads will. There are so many kinds of racks too. they vary in size in color, and it can be hard to find one that suites you.
