I've never owned a Mac before aside from the iPhone I just bought. I wanted to do some programming for iPhone apps and need to find a cheap MacBook (or Pro if the price is right). I could settle for a 13.3" MacBook as long as it's not excruciatingly slow for programming and web browsing.

Looking for advice from Apple enthusiasts here as far as what year models to be looking at, what known issues to avoid, etc.

Thanks in advance.

There isn't any one thing that I could say in regards to your particular situation. If you know about PC hardware, deciphering Mac hardware is the same. Just pick up a machine that will be adequate for what you want to do.

You'll probably be fine with a C2D, 320M/8600Gt, 4GB Ram machine. I just sold a 13" MBP with those specs for $800, I suspect you could buy one for around the same price. If you're willing to get a machine with a 9400M then you can save a little more.
