Hi!

My boss needs a new video card!

He has a Sony desktop. It's not new so I'm pretty sure it's AGP.

Right now, he has a Ti4200. He wants to play BF2 and Band of Brothers: Earned in Blood and etc. I don't know his price range and neither does he, so can you recommend me the best cards in these ranges?

1. Best possible (probably 7800GS)
2. <$200
3. <$150
4. <$100

Thanks!

i doubt his psu will be powerful enough to run it and i would recommend the 7600gs or a x850xt(better then 7600gs). 7800gs will be ok but i think it would be a bottleneck on his system. what are his system specs anyway.

what is his cpu/ram?

no point in getting a good graphics card if he has an old P4 or something

I would jump on the ATi Clearance sale on AGP Cards the X800 X/L for like 119 with free shipping. Than throw a ATi Silencer on it and OC it

yeah the Egg has a bunch of x800/x850 AIW to GTO's (AGP) from 100-150 bucks. i would make sure you get something with a 256-bit interface though. the bandwidth makes a big difference over 128-bit versions. those ATI are priced pretty nicely atm.the 7800GS is nice to have as an option, but the damn thing is $$$$, and I think the x800/x850's give a little more bang for the buck vs the 7600, but you may be a nVidia only guy.

The 800xl and 850 are no longer on the website. I checked this morning because my 9800pro was crapping on me last night. Anything else equivelant to those two cards for the same price? Hopefully any answers will help me and the OP in the decision process until I switch to PCI-E in a few months.

ATI AIW X800XT

but can understand not wanting the AIW version, so...

X800 GTO w/256m

either card a very good bump over a Ti-4200

you may wanna look around in the FS/T forum, and see if you can find something that fits your needs and budget too. plenty there.

like a X800 - MSI AGP for $100.00 or a 6800GT AGP asking $115.00

even a vanilla 6800's or a AGP 6800GS- you can unlock the pipes on the AGP-6800GS version and get a 16 pipe GPU w/256 GDDR3. you may be able to clock it near a 6800GT, and that is not bad performance at all.

the 7800GS IMO is just too much $$$ right now. I do like the ATI X800/850's but there are trade offs. I do suggest you get something with at least 12 pipes and 256-bit memory interface, it makes a big difference. the 7600GS is also a option, but the 128-bit interface is not for me. you may be OK with 128-bit, i dunno, but i would go 256-bit.

The AGP x800xt and x850xt can be found for $200 or less, and give performance equal to or better than the 7800gs.

The 7600GS was recently relesed in AGP. Probably your best bet as the only higher end card is the 7800GS AGP which is a hell of a lot of $$$ for a 16 pipe card, unlike the "real" 7800gt which was 20 pipe and the 7900gt which is 24 pipe. Big difference.

Considering there's only a $5 difference I'd get this one with 512mb, just to prolong its life a tad:

i would say 7600gs or x800/x850 something .

i have a x800gto, sapphire it is like 129$ on newegg, look for the one where everyone says they unlock. mine unlocked and OC's good 15% higher then x800xt speeds.

both cards are great for budget agp.

if had to choose i would get the 7600gs. the pcie models had lots of room to overclock, might want to look to see if agp ones do too.
