Nice little re-build with an E6600

so did the cpu do good or bad?

when i OC again, I will post the results from that as well.

so did the cpu do good or bad?

I think that it did very well. You can watch h.264 1080p without GPU support!

The h.264 is standard for compressing video and it is superior to mpeg2 it's other name is mpeg4 part 10 or mpeg4/AVC. Divx and Xvid are mpeg4 part2. For more info http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H.264/MPEG-4_AVC
That's why if somebody is talking about HD video 1080p it shoud also mention the compression standard is it mpeg2 or h.264 or WMV9 (VC-1) and so on.
H.264 is complex and with the previos generations of CPUs it was inpossible to watch 1080p without GPU acceleration (may be with software optimization it will be possible).

Now I know that if I buy E6600 I will have no problems in playback of 1080p h.264 even with not so well optimazed (quick time) or other player. I expect new video drivers for beter acceleration and new (better) versions of quick time.

This means that after 5 years when I buy new comp I can still use E6600 just for HTPC or PVR.

in the first set of photos page 1, what is that large heatsink with the ddr sitting on top of it?
