out of no where shut downs problem

so im helping a friend fix his computer and for some reason the problem to it is that it shuts down automatically out of no where. Could this be caused by the PSU or harddrive? It's running XP pro Sp2

Yes, check the PSU... does it automatically shut off with no notifications?

if it's completely shuts down it could be PSU, or if it's ginving some beep codes when it shuts down or even after you try to boot back up again it could be overheating
