PCIE 1x card in physical PCIE 16x slot

Sorry if this is obvious, but does a PCIE 1x card work in a PCIE 16x physical slot. The motherboard in question is 975x bad axe 2. I want to put a 1x card in the final slot PCIE slot furthest from the CPU which is physical 16x and I think electrical 4x.

Yes, it should work fine unless the port was configured for vidcards only -- which I doubt is the case on the badaxe.
