I recently upgraded from a Sempron 2800+ that idle'd at 32 degrees celsius with the stock cooler to a Penitum D 805 that would idle around 42 degrees and loaded at 60 or so under a Scythe Samurai Z with the included grease.
I told a buddy of mine this and he said that my temps were unacceptable and that he'd use some Arctic silver 5 and reseat it for me next time we LAN'd. Well, come the next LAN party, as things tend to go, all of a sudden my CPU actually overheated and shutdown while playing a game (I set shut down temps at 75 Celsius). Then he said that was as good a time as any to fix me up.
After regreasing and reseating it over 3 times, my temps have consistently sucked since. Now it idles at 44 degrees Celsius and and loads at near 70 if not more. I haven't had a tragic system suicide shutdown since, but the temps are still insane.
What could be wrong? Are these temps normal for a Pent D 805?
