Planning to buy XFX 7800GT, unlock pipes?

I heard you can unlock pipes, and im going to buy a 7800GT by XFX. I know unlocking pipes and that vertex shader unit voids the warranty on this card, but does in increase the chances of it burning or dying? I still have bad memories from my geforce ti200 that burnt a few months after i bought it. Does unlocking the pipes and the shader unit even help?

I think all the rumors about unlocking have been confirmed to not be true. The Rivatuner guy ( what's his name?) said it didn't work for sure on the software level. I haven't heard anything about people trying a bios flash though.

Nobody knows how to unlock the pipes on those cards yet. If you could, yes it would give you a substantial gain in performance (as with any card with locked pipes).
