well, now that intel has been nice enough to bring this into the sub-$300 range... it looks like it could be a real contender.

2.66ghz, still uses the 65nm core.

same speed as the q9450, but has a 10x multiplier, as opposed to the puny 8.
q6700 has a 10x so 10x400 = 4ghz.. lovely.

currently, its $70 more than the q6600 on newegg. thats a tank of gas :p

i can't think of any reason to purchase the 9450 or 6600 anymore..
i was set on the q9450... three weeks ago.
i am impatient now, and i think this is a wise choice...
is there anything i am not considering?

Nothing special.
It's essentially a Q6600 with a 10x multi, instead of 9x.

The problem here is that you can easily max out your Q6600 on 9x, so I don't see why 10x is necessary. The price-cut is nothing to get excited about (for the Q6700). If they drop the price of the Q6600, then sure, let's throw a party. If I were in the market for a quad right now, I'd still be buying a Q6600 G0.

But it was running $179 at Frys last week, so...

Q9450 is faster, runs cooler, and takes less power than the 65nm cores at the same clock speed. Trade off is bunked up temperature monitoring. That pretty much sums it up.

Well thats paying a 100 more to get a Q9450 which i heard alot of people are getting frustrated with it not over clocking well on alot of mobos on the extreme systems forum.

If he were "experienced" then would he really be that excited about the Q6700 price cut?

At tigerdirect.ca, the price difference between the Q6600 and the Q6700 is only $10! If you're not OCing, it's a no-brainer.

$70 is a lot to pay for an extra multiplier. I doubt you will get 4G, you will probably end up using 9x anyway to run your ram 1:1 at decent speeds. So all you pay for is the binning. I still prefer the 6600.

ok, so i read and found out what g0 is...

newegg doesnt guarentee a g0 q6600, but someone said ALL q6700 are g0, can anyone confirm that?

Confirmed. All Q6700 are G0 stepping. They were released along with the batches of Q6600 G0.
