Resealing popped IHS.

I'm thinking about placing back on with good TIM but what do I use to glue it back together? It looked like it was silicon that they applied. Is it ok to just get silicon from places like home depot and use that or is there special one that I have to use?
 
Silicon glue should work fine as long as you make sure not to use too much. How did it come off in the first place?
 
it's couple of cpus that i took off for better temp which some of them i got as much as 10' drop. i just wanted to put one back on cause it was so easy to move heatsink on top of it. don't try it on newer cpu though as most of them are soldered not like older ones.
 
Yeah, I know that they're attached directly to the dies now. I thought you were talking about your Q6600 at first which is why I was wondering how the heatspreader came off :).
