sd card dead?

I have a 6 gb micro SD card or my nexus one, and my phone randomly rebooted last night and got stuck in a boot loop. I tried restoring a backup of the phone and it got stumble on restoring the ext partition on the card. So I pulled it and put a new card in, phone booted fine. So I know it was the card. So I put the card in an adapter and took a look on my laptop. I can see all the files, but I can't copy anything off it, it says there is an error after a few minutes. I still think the problem is with the other partition, but I'm not sure. Anyone know how you can format the ext partition? I'd rather not format the whole card if I can avoid it, there are lots of pictures from the phone. Maybe there is some sort of software to recover files off a damaged card?
