Hey, I have been trying for ages to find a way to get my LAN to increase it's speed. I have gigabit network cards on both ends and could not find ANY way to get things to run at 100mbps, let alone 1.0gbps.
I was using a DI-524 wireless router as my switch and assumed it was the cause, so I went out today and bought a DGS-1008D 8 port gigabit switch. Same problem. 10.0mbps limit (with ZERO variation in speed, just a solid horizontal line).
I must have searched forums for hours looking for a tweak. Some guy on a forum mentioned disabling the Multimedia Class Scheduler Service for a boost. It worked.
My transfer rate over the network went from 10mbps to 120mbps (using drives in raid 0).
- open registry (start -> run -> regedit)
- go to the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SYSTEM -> CurrentControlSet -> Services -> AudioSrv
- right click on the key called "DependOnService", select Modify
- delete the last line there, MMCSS
- close all windows
- go to services area (in administrative tools)
- see "Multimedia Class Scheduler? its evil. right click -> properties
- change startup type from 'automatic' to 'disabled'
Both computers running Windows Vista Ultimate x64 w/SP1.
I hope this can help someone.
