TFT screen flicker

I get screen flicker on the 17" monitor I use at work. I use it as an extended monitor to a laptop. I tested the exact same model of monitor in the exact same set-up (with the exception of the D-SUB cable,I forgot about this and used the cable attached to the other monitor) so I figure it must be my monitor at fault? I used the same refresh rates and resolution on both monitors (which are exactly the same make and model) , the other monitor was fine and mine continues to flicker. It takes a few seconds after vista starts up for it to flicker.
Any ideas on what is causing this issue?

Do you have the option to use a DVI cable?

Afraid not. No DVI-out on my laptop.
