Does the power management "work" on your 5805?

I created a test four disk raid 5 array comprising four seagate 1TB 7200.12 drives.
Array was set to spin down after 5mins
It didn't

The 5805 was running the lastest firmware, latest ASM and latest driver
OS was win 7 pro

The power management feature of the 5805 made the card very attractive, as it would (could) power down the array when not is use (much of the time)

Comments????

Yes, to me the power management works, but I have to put "Power Off drives after" = 30 mins.

Only sporting 20tb of usable space on the rig in my sig. That's not counting the 4tb in my Thecus n4100pro that im trying to sell. Which I guess would put me up to 24tb since that's still on the network. Just not being used ATM.

Hmm, but that's the "showoff" thread :) Take some photos and present!

8.3mb bitmap? Even that took a little while to load on a 30mbit connection. Seriously, learn to use compression (see: jpg, aka what the rest of the world uses).

After years of non raid I decided it was time to move on and invest (first post for me btw after reading alot on these boards)

Case : Mountainmods Ascension Duality
PSU :Corsair AX1200
Motherboard : Supermicro CS2BX+
CPU : Intel QX9770
RAM : OCZ 2*2GB DDR3 PC3-14400
Controller : Areca ARC-1680ix-16

Harddrives
Raid 10 (onboard) 4*300GB Velociraptor WD3000HLFS
Raid 5 8*2TB Hitachi HDS722020ALA330
Raid 5 8*2TB Samsung HD204UI

NAS : DroboPro 8bay with Raid 5 8*2TB Samsung HD204UI

OS : Win7 ultimate X64

My budget is not unlimited so I decided to run my raids on desktop grade disks.
I read many positive things about the Hitachi 7K2000 and less positive things about the Samsung F4EG :)
There is room left in my case so if I ever run out of diskspace expansion is possible, I really like the mountainmods solution to attach 3 harddrives directly to a 1200mm fan. Ofcourse if I ever need to swap a disk its gonna be hell.

I included some screenshots with Crystaldiskmark, I'm pretty sure my 4k block performance is bad, does anyone know what could be the reason ?

There are more disks and empty room on the left side of the case
Just a little bit of work needed to strap all the cables and I'm done

compare to his mines look like crap lol

From the front they look the same. ;)
How bizarre that two people, a couple of posts apart would show the same "case"!! :)
As for the cables being tidy, the WHS is my pet project, I am forever tinkering with it.

And photo is taken professionally (no shadows, no dark/bright spots) ;)

Photography is a hobby.
The WHS was "out" for an upgrade, so it was no hassle to record its evolution with a quality photo.
Again my OCD. :p

Sir, I believe there are significant differences between our definitions of the word "mess."

Would be interesting to see the SATA/Power connections on those hotswaps. Curious how you got it so clean!

here is a picture of the inside before from the "old" build, before the upper 5into3 was connected. is this picture okay?

the cable uses standard molex idc connectors

the cable wasn't built for the server, i built the cable years and years ago, it was a sheer fluke the cable was the correct spacing!

Damm, talk about size envy in this thread. I showed my gorlfriend this thread and told her how much these setups cost and their use and she smiled and said "its a good thing you don;t need something like that". I told her I just need the money and this is right up my alley.

this blows i wake up this morning finding my file server off and when i turn it back on i seem smoke and a light coming from this:

good thing is there were no hard drives in that slot. now i need to go find a replacement

Hi
What is model name of Rack mount server cabinet and price?
It's a HP 10622 G2 rack. I think the MSRP on the 22U version is like $1400 or $1800 or something like that. I picked mine up in brand-new condition from Tech4Less for $400, if I recall correctly. Scraped up and dented up one of the panels when I got it home, ticked me off. One of these days I'll figure out how to install that stabilizer kit. Until then, it's "be extra careful" and "install everything on the bottom".

I have to say, that is the first time I've seen any computer flame like that.

this is the first time i ever seem a computer flame up lol

In my younger years I once booted my machine up with a hd on the carpet, i saw a flash of light and a small smoke cloud rise up from behind the box, needless to say that drive was done for.
