Whenever I run the Tiger installer, it says

"BaseSystem cannot be installed on this computer.

This software cannot be installed on this computer."

And the installer log says:
"Apr 28 19:35:00 : Mac OS X Installation Log
Apr 28 19:35:00 : Opened from: /Volumes/Mac OS X Install DVD/System/Installation/Packages/OSInstall.mpkg
Apr 28 19:35:00 : Hardware Model: PowerBook6,3 @ 799 MHz, 640 MB
Apr 28 19:35:00 : Running OS Build: 7B85
Apr 28 19:35:00 : Installer Language: English
Apr 28 19:35:03 : Requirement: <requires "certain InstallationCheck criteria"> FAIL for context root none, domain 0
Apr 28 19:35:03 last message repeated 9 times
Apr 28 19:35:03 : Requirement: <requires package:com.apple.pkg.AdditionalFonts != (null)> PASS for context root none, domain 0
Apr 28 19:35:03 last message repeated 2 times
Apr 28 19:35:03 : Requirement: <requires "certain InstallationCheck criteria"> PASS for context root none, domain 0"

Any ideas?

Do a disk check?

Also you're still running 10.3.0?

What happens when you boot from the CD?

Sorry for another question, but you only have one partition, correct? Just trying to see if it's pointing to the correct place.

Here's the deal... I fresh-installed Panther to my iPod, then put the Tiger DMG on the iPod, booted from it, and mounted the image. That's what I get when I try to run /System/Installation/Packages/OSInstall.mpkg

Thinking it was a problem with the installer, I replaced Panther's installer with the one from the Tiger DVD's /Applications/Utilities, but that didn't help.

If someone could give me the MD5sum of their BaseSystem.pkg so I can see if mine's busted, that would be great.

Wait, are you installing from a diskimage from within 10.3?
If so, that won't work, burn it to a DVD.

Edit: For the MD5, are you using the GM?

He shouldn't have to burn it to DVD if he's got the pre-ship screwup from MacMall.
