New Corsair Voyager USB stick apparently lost it's MBR.
It's stuck in RAW and cannot format, I could not even format it with Acronis disk director, it tossed up about 6 errors.

Guess it's corrupted/toast.

Anybody ever had this issue? I have 4 older USB sticks from Micron and Mushkin that work 100%.

You could always try diskpart from the command prompt.

list disk

select (whatever the drive number is)

clean

create partition primary

The you should be able to initialize/format it in Windows.

My guess is that it is toast though.

And even if that does work, it will probably flake out again.

If diskpart doesn't work, you could try using the "Quick Size Test" button in RMPrepUSB, then do a non-quick format of the stick. But the objection that it might flake out again still stands.

Acronis boot recovery disk is basically Pre-OS and it has a wipe feature and I could not even do that.

It's just borked.

WD tools, it passes all the tests but I can't write zero's.

HDtune shows it's healthy with no bad blocks.

Diskpart says it has encountered an error, the media is write protected.

Firmware bug? seems if you pull the drive before its finished it goes into read mode like this. You need a tool that fixes the issue. Not sure why it still happens a decade after these things are in wide use mostly by people who think its a pen that also works as a drive.

I always eject before yanking it. It was working fine, was just moving about 1G of files when it just stopped and a box popped up it's write protected.

This is the new voyager X2 drive, one might think all bugs would be worked out by now.

The drive cannot be initialized, it's stuck in RAW format without any MBR.

I agree, now I just have to get a RMA from NE.

I visited their support forum, pretty weak and nowhere near as vast as at [H].

Bummer, I've never had any issues with Corsair products, a real first but it can happen.
