I got a new asus TN led lcd monitor recently, and it has a feature that lets you have a better viewing angle, e.g. when you're lying on the floor, or viewing from the side, etc.

i pushed the button, and all it did was jack up the brightness, washing out the colors.

Then I recalled that Samsung has some Magic Angle bullshit on their TN panels......

Is this the same gimmick as the one on my asus ?
what changes exactly when you enable magic angle?

From what I've seen, it's pretty much the same thing yes. Completely useless as it doesn't really deal with the vertical gamma shift.

It adjusts the gamma factor, which affects the brightness of the display - you have multiple settings to choose from in the menu. As Walker said, it's a gimmick - the panel is still affected by gamma shifts, this "magic angle" stuff only makes sense if you are forced to look at the monitor at a bad angle, and wouldn't be able to move the monitor.

Would be nice if they invent some kind of transparent gradient layer, dark at the bottom and washed out a top, in hardware. :D
