What's new with 3rd Generation HD-DVD Players?

I just read that Toshiba will be releasing the 3rd Gen HD-DVD players this october.
Was just wondering what is the difference between 2nd gen and 3rd gen?

Perhaps support for 3 layered HD-DVD's??

From what I read over at AVSforums, it looks like its going to be more about cutting costs for Toshiba than adding new features for us.

Hopefully one of those "features" is actual availability of drives for PCs; I've only seen one place so far that has an HD DVD drive for sale.

Now you've seen two. $189 for a box with a p4 2.5ghz chip, laptop dimm, custom redhat setup on a flash disk, and an IDE HD DVD drive in a slick case (with a pretty darn nice remote too).

Have fun tearing it apart. Mine arrived via ups today.

probably the ones that will sell like mad for $150 at Walmart this holiday season and win over more of the big movie companies to go HDDVD or dual format on all movies
