Laptop in the sig, WNDR3700 with stock firmware.
With the dock, I have Gbit connected, but I also have wifi connected. Is there a way to send internet requests through the wifi always, and local connections (file server) through Gbit when docked/Gbit-is-connected?
I've been playing with metric controls, but that just sends everything over Gbit. I'm trying to get IRC and youtube and the like to not lose connection when I undock without having to adjust things when docking, and still get Gbit connections for transfering 10-15GB files.

Would assigning a static IP and a lower (higher priority) metric with no gateway IP on the Gbit do it?

Could give the file server a second nic with a ip in a different subnet and give the laptop a static ip in the same subnet but with the default gateway left blank. Then connect to it by ip which will force the server connection over wire and everything else will still go through wireless.
There also might be a way to do this with routes but im not sure.
