Well, I just stumbled on all this. My U2711 isn't looking so great anymore... especially considering the price I paid.

I forgot all about this back when we were doing the testing. Anything is possible with software scaling... they could quad-pixel it, or do weak/strong interpolation... options to adjust these settings yourself! But if it's anything like everything else, the limitless possibilities of software...

At least it's only resized because your comp gets the new resolution right... mine sticks at 800x600 or something when I bring it back. I just leave it in standby all the time now.

That's how I understand it anyway. Even if you buy secondhand, the warranty becomes yours because the service tag IS the warranty. I just didn't want to get an open box or something like that, that is why the Ebay sellers that go straight through Dell appealed to me. Exact same experience...

Went straight to me. The Ebay sellers act as a reseller, so as I understand it, completely legit. The box has his name on the billing, my name on the shipping/recipient. It isn't a refurb, no dead pixels, etc. You wait in line like everyone else for the monitor to be built and shipped out by...

Yes, this is exactly what I did... my seller (cmcredding) was excellent in every way, and the box has my name on it as the recipient. Remember to use Bing Cashback, if you aren't factoring that in already. Mine was $825 after cashback, but I paid $70 more for the 5yr warranty.

I know, I didn't expect it either. Overclocked 860 and 5850. It has a lot to do with the game though, of course. Not much can be said about this. One thing I will mention though... you won't need AA so much with such fine pixels. So if you do have trouble running it, disabling AA entirely...

Yeah, the demand is not as bad as people make it think... also run BFBC2 at full res. Haven't had much/any trouble yet, but I've been slacking on PC games lately.

Finally, a good place! So far I've just been using high-res picture(s) of my cat from my camera, the best way I found to take advantage of the 2560 until now.

Sloppy paperwork is one thing (I know at least a couple years ago paper+accessory placement was by hand) but cardboard supports? Wow... I'd call Dell and ask them.

You can [quadruple them] from 720p, but the U2711 does not, see the earlier pages on all that. I know my sentence used a bad example, but the point I was trying to make is, the display always opts for complicated scaling. ...and I got used to the text size within a day. To the point of I feel...

The best way, and I'm thinking about buying the $50 Bluray drive on Mwave for just this reason. Either way though, something will be upconverting it to 1440p, as even the U2711 hardware scaler seems to try to add detail instead of just doubling pixels (see pictures from a couple pages back).

As far as the "vs Bluray on a 1080 monitor", it will be personal preference, and I'll explain why: Some people like terms like "pixel mapped" and whatnot, but others like things like upscaled DVDs. Technically those two schools of thought are contradictory. Obviously, with this monitor's "smart...

Resolution changes when monitor shuts off

This does not happen to me every time I turn mine off, but about half the time when leaving it off overnight... goes to the same res too, 1024x768. Dell U2711 by the way.
