I got FT to work on a cluster with a Q8400 on one host and a Q9400 on the other host, successfully setup and tested. I guess it depends on how different the chips are.
If your host will have access to both datastores (new RAID and old), you can do a storage migration to the new datastore and attach it after you reinstall. Shouldn't need to delete your snapshots.
You can buy the square to threaded snap-in pieces to screw your existing rails into their racks. Unless the rack depth is too short or too long, you shouldn't need new rails.
Depending on your host hardware, this may not be available. I think it needs to support IPMI for ESX to access the sensor information. On my Dell 1950 hosts it shows all sorts of sensor information, but on my "clone" hosts it only shows basic hardware inventory.
