I dont want to upgrade to a new chipset. That means new graphics card, new ram, new mobo, and new cpu. Not happning. I have about 150 max to spend. Jsut seeing if this is really going to be a noticeable differance.
i have a 6800 nu runnin a 400/900 so no real need for a new card. Shes aging...
So right now i have a 2.4ghz p4 northwood and im looking to go to a 3.2 or 3.4 pressy with HT. This a 478 chipset. I also have 1.5 gig of patriot 3200 ram. I also have no intrest in up grading mobo/ram/cpu/fx card at this time/ Just a nice bump of what I have.
Will this be a decent upgrade...
For the price it seems you cant beat it. i have a northy 2.4 revison c1 and it overclocks for shit. 2695mhz is the most i can get out of it and have it run stabe. but this chip has the 512kb L2, so i am curious on how much performance ill loose by going to 256kb L2.
Im interested in this too. these chips seem to be some pretty damn good overclockers.
My questions are :
How is there performance compared to say a 3.0 P4 with the 1mb L2. So far the only differance I can see is the L2. how important is it really when you have such a healthy oc'er?

My asrock p4v88 says ddr400, I want new memory adn wanted to get some ddr500 will it be ok to run in the board? I was thinking the 500 for a little more headroom while overclocking.
Thanks
I was also thinking if I got new memory, in the future (2-3months) I wanted to get a pressy 3.0-3.2ghz....Would the ddr400 be a decent stick for that cpu also or would I be better going to the ddr500 with a little more relaxed timeings?
And another question to the [H] gods......if i run cpu-z how do I tell which version I have. Like he said he had a 2.4c. How can I tell what mine is ????
