I had the same problem with my monitor (215tw) about a week ago. I returned it for a refund.

I sent an email to NEC. They pretty much said the same. Check resolution, refresh rate, and try another vga cable. I've done all except the vga cable. When I get back from work later I will order a good vga cable. They told me to me if the problem continue either give them a call or exchange it...

I really like this monitor, however, the problem with the vga is the only thing that might may actually force me to send it back. I find this problem pretty annoying. I wonder if this is something that can be fixed?

I bought the 215tw from Office Depot a couple of days ago. I am having the same problem with the backlighting. I was planning on geting the NEC 20wmgx2. Instead I will take this monitor back in the morning and give it another try at another store.
