it's a standard modem given to me by cox.
it's preatty old and dusty. i randomly lose connections and get random lockups.
is this common with old modems ? so i decided to order this

i'v been using this dollar store mousepad for years and i want to make a switch to compliment my mx1000.
I play alot of Fps games so the mousepad can't crap out on me :)
of course i cleaned it off.. down to the last particle of dust and made sure the surface was CLEAN CLEAN
applied as5.. the size was like the A in AMD on the cpu heatspreader
if your dorm as carpet.. take your socks off to disperse static.. static = death to pc parts
make sure you friend does the same ...lol
do a barebone ( cpu/videocard/1stick of ram) lay the motherboard on a cardboard box and start it up
there's more.. but i'm sure your friend knows...
to eliminate a short in the case
i did a naked startup on a foam pad with a s.754 3k+ and a geil value ram 3200
hooked up the videocard and i pushed the onboard start button and i didn't get any beeps or a post
so to rule out the videocard.. i took the card out and only started it with...
i'm using the moniter right now with no problem
my powersupply is enough since i don't have power hungry parts
only suspect is the mobo or the cpu
i did notice it was around 48C in the bios screen before i started the format
every part is new
i was at the hdd format step and it was exactly at 76%
and out of nowhere my comp just shutdown
so i tried powering it up and i got "please check cable signal"
-took out ram and tried another one = no success
-did a barebone startup = no success
-took out ram...
