Try changing just a couple of things:
CPU host control - enabled
CPU host frequency - 200
PCI Express frequency - 100
System Memory Multiplier - 4
CPU Voltage control - 1.225
Save this and see what happens. If it resets back to original settings then it's a bios feature, had a similar...
AOpen GeForce FX 5900 (non ultra) for only uk£140. inc vat from Dabs:

Listed in the Clearance corner so I guess they're making space for the XT version.
Cheapest I've...
It all depends on exactly what motherboard it is, but most of the old ones can be found here
If it is the original Asus A7v then it's based on the kt133 chipset and only supports 100fsb CPUs, up to a 1.4GHz Tbird. From what I remember it was quite a nice motherboard, although O/C wise you...
Pretty much any modern cheap heatsink is a good choice, I've got a 950 cooled by a Coolermaster CP5 which cost £6 and comes with an 80mm fan.
I've also got an xp1800+ @ 2.1GHz with 1.75v cooled by one of these, it keeps it under 45*C (full load) so they're pretty good.
Any bios beeps or bios voice at all?
Try running just the cpu and memory in the new mobo (no cards, no ide cables) to see if it will at least beep then - you won't see anything on the screen but hopefully you will get some kind of beep.
I'm guessing the crucial is 2*512, if so try just one...
I ran two old athlons both at 200fsb (400 effective), an athlon 1100 and an athlon 950 in an A7n8x nforce2 mobo with no problems, so I would say as long as the mobo will do it the cpu should.
I had to run the 950 with a 5x multiplier as that was the lowest it went, giving a 1GHz speed as a...
The Asus ones will let you run the memory slower than the fsb, down to 50%, so if you could somehow get the fsb up to 266 (533ddr!!!) without the system melting you could still run the memory in spec.
I've got a PC built from leftovers that I run at work, I overclock that so that I can run programs faster (I work in software support for loads of anti-virus / firewall / content security products). I want a fast PC so that I can have all these programs running in the background and not have...
Could still be the northbridge cooling, I would still recommend trying replacing the generic goop with some decent stuff.
Also what power supply are your running? You could be getting limited by that possibly.
A7N = nvidia chipset
A7V = via chipset
A7S = sis chipset
A7A = ali chipset.
Actually makes it fairly easy finding the right board, especially compared to some manufacturers.
Less than a minute, depending on how fast you are at navigating around the bios.
Hang on, I think I misunderstood. I've got a similar chip (AXDA2500DKV4D 9377468260550 AQUCA0310WPGW) which tops out at about 2GHz, but it's only cooled by an SK6 with 80mm fan, and only an extra .025 volts...
